Bob Schneider came to my attention through my friend Charlie who has an addiction to all music that originates in Austin, Texas. The first song he played for me? A very appropriate one with ‘fucking’ in the title. The thing about Bob is there are lots of songs like that–and you know how much I love that word! While those playful, amusing lyrics are a hallmark there is a softer side to the joker persona espoused there. A wonderful example can be found in “Queen UK” heard here:

Bob’s website is here. He has tour dates listed here. You can find him on Indie911 here. This is a guy you should travel to hear. He give a legendary show and is worth every penny. Go forth and make yourselves familiar!

Sara Genn is an artist I stumbled on, like so many others, via one of my ‘guilty addictions’–Lipstick Jungle. Her song ‘Surrender’ created a perfect moment for characters I adore and I was hooked. I searched online for a few days to try and find the lyrics to match what I heard to no avail. When the LJ website finally published the information about the artist I went to download it RIGHT THEN and discovered that I loved the album as much as I loved my first taste.

Beyond ‘Surrender’, I’ve really enjoyed ‘Still’ and ‘Hyperion’ both of which you can hear if you click on the player on her site.

Sara is artist beyond music and that shines through in her lyrical approach. Her lilting tunes are entrancing and relatable without being mundane. These albums are the kind of albums you put on to relax, reflect or simply enjoy a night at home listening to the rain and her voice.

You can download her first album, Songs for Longing, here.

You can download her second album, Bedsongs, here.

In my opinion, buy both.
